Scope and Contents The photocopied articles and clippings reflect and follow Anderson's career until his death in 1943. There are two articles written in 1978 that relate his exploits and retell the circumstances surrounding the introduction and courtship of Anderson with his wife, Lydia. He offered forty five dollars per month for "well-disposed and willing boys," some of whom might be kept as "tinkers" for blacksmiths or as labourers in the yard. The original manuscript consists of thirty pages found in the papers of George Washington at the Library of Congress.

Hugh Hester Papers

Introduction

Hugh Bryan Hester served as an officer in the United States Army from 1917-1951. He saw active duty during the First and Second World Wars. Upon retirement, he became a frequent critic of American foreign policy and an advocate of peace. This collection was given by Hester and his niece, Mrs. Katherine Watson, between 1982 and 1984.
